The best way to plan for the future is to revisit the past. And with more than three decades of identity governance and management under our belts, one thing is certain: we still have a lot to learn. Not everyone has been in the industry as long as our Clear Skye veterans — together, we have 100+ years of experience! — so, we felt it was our duty to compile this history and lessons we’ve learned throughout the years and lay it all out there.
From this, our new white paper, “The 3 Inflections of IGA: The Value Paradox,” was born. From the launch of the Netscape Directory Server in 1996, to Active Directory in early 2000, to products like Clear Skye’s that emerged 16 years later, there’s a burgeoning market for identity products and services in the workplace. This evolution has brought us to the $13B identity market we’re living in today.
But, despite the market success, businesses still aren’t realizing the true value of identity governance and security. According to Gartner, 76% of enterprise organizations are looking to replace their existing identity governance and administration (IGA) solution. For a market that has been in existence for nearly 30 years, how could there be so much dissatisfaction with the solutions available today? To answer this question, it’s important to understand how the identity market has changed.
If we look back at the evolution of computing and software, one can chart several significant inflection points. In IGA, specifically, there have been three that have shaped where we are and where we’re going. These include directory-enabled networking, the inception of the internet, and lastly, the rise of the platforms. But that’s not all—we’ll also look at the proverbial crystal ball, predicting what’s to come (hint: AI/ML functionality is coming, but we’re not quite there yet, despite what you may think).
So, if you’re in the identity space, which if you’re here on the Clear Skye blog, we’re assuming you are, this white paper is one you don’t want to miss. Download it for free or pick up a copy in-person at KuppingerCole’s EIC 2022 in Berlin (May 10-13). Oh, and stop by the Clear Skye booth to say hi!
